Supply Side Energy Policy

A little more than a month ago in this very paper I wrote that it was time for the GOP to go after the Democrats on the energy crisis that has been brought about by Democrat policies. If you notice every Democrat in a marginally competitive district has now coined a new term, “the failed Bush and so and so energy policy” depending on who they are running against.

Why are they doing this? Because energy prices, more notably gas prices are the biggest issues in this election. They know they are vulnerable on this issue, and that it has been the policy of the Democratic party to make it hard to explore, drill and refine oil in this country. It was fashionable in America for the liberals to say that our cars should get smaller (as theirs got bigger) and that we should put higher and higher taxes ... Read More...

Speaking of Energy, It's Time the GOP Showed Some on Gas Prices

I have been watching the news and the reports on how high the gas
prices are. All the networks followed the same pattern in their coverage. The report shows prices at $6.00 a gallon and higher, they interview people who say that they can’t handle the prices that it is now a choice of gas in their car or food on the table.

They cut to various government and Wall Street experts who opine on how high the prices might go and then attempt to explain why. It’s China and India’s economic expansion, or it’s some madman in one of a hundred countries who threatened to cut off oil to get even with
us or some slight.

Then they go to a Democratic congressperson and the finger gets pointed to the administration for not having an “Energy
Plan”! The networks all put the focus on how we ... Read More...

If My Party Leadership Doesn’t Respond, Who Will?

For years I have heard that the Democrats are better than the Republicans at the art of politics and everyday the Republicans show how right that old axiom is. Ever since George W became president we have heard that the economy was in horrible shape. It’s been easy for the Democrats to stretch the truth about the economy or the war in Iraq with the help of the mainstream media. They did it during the general election of 2000 pretending that the economy was still humming along even though the tech bubble had burst and the economy was slowing to the point of recession.

One of the amazing things about President Bush II is the fact that he brought the economy back even after America and the economy were attacked on 9/11. He knew that the terrorists had targeted the World Trade Center as a way to push our economy ... Read More...

A Veteran Conservative, Homeless Since Fred Left, Makes a Decision.

The news that Fred Thompson has pulled out of the race for the Presidency leaves me with a decision to make, You see, I was for Thompson and although he wasn’t perfect, to me he was the true “conservative” in the race.

The one problem I had supporting Fred was, the American people and me like governors or vice presidents as president. He was neither. His dropping out didn’t come as a surprise, he was not doing as well as some of us thought he would; whether he was too deliberate or didn’t have the fire in the belly the campaign never overcame the “Lazy” label given to it right from the start. So now people like me have to go back and choose another candidate.

When this primary field was announced I wasn’t crazy about the people who were in it (that’s why I went for Fred) I had ... Read More...

Where’s the Optimism?

Where does this defeatism come from? Everywhere you turn there are talking heads and even some Republicans conceding the next Presidency to the Democrats. I see it on TV in the papers and in blogs, and it’s getting me sick! Do I have to remind you all that.it was just 3 years ago that W was reelected and the word realignment was being thrown around to explain the Republican victories? Bush 43 went against history in two of the three elections His first midterm was historic, taking the majority back in the Senate which had been lost because of a defector—and the second getting reelected and keeping his majority in both houses.

Remember the red and blue maps? How can anyone think the country is so shallow that it can turn its politics around in one midterm election cycle? What happened in 2006 ranked average with last off-year elections in ... Read More...

I'm Telling Ya-Thompson Will Go All the Way Because He is Loved by the Base

Now that his first debate is over, as far as I am concerned Fred Thompson will be the next GOP candidate for President.

No matter what others say Fred was the focus of, and winner of the debate. I know people say Rudy was outgoing and Romney was the candidate from central casting but the debate was all about Fred. Would he be able to stand up to the attacks from the rest of the candidates? Would he be able to answer questions on current issues and not make a gaff? After waiting for so long to get in the race could he get people excited? On all these questions the answer was a clear Yes!

Okay, his first answer showed he was nervous and he looked a little old but his answers were well thought out and he showed he had a good grasp of the issues. It ... Read More...

Republicans Should Embrace the War—and the Winning of It—for 2008

The GOP has one chance of winning back Congress and holding on to the Whitehouse, and that is to embrace the war on terror and not run from it. I know the conventional wisdom is to pretend that President Bush and the war don’t exist and to admit it was wrong, but that is the recipe for disaster. The American people are taking a second look at the war in Iraq, but if there is no alternative presented to the anti-war “mainstream media” bias, that bias will paint much of history’s picture. The GOP has a chance to take the initiative if they get behind the most popular part of the federal government, the military!

In a New York Times poll—the day before General Petraeus gave his report to Congress—an overwhelming majority of the American people voted to trust the military to handle the war over the congress, ... Read More...

The Trap is Set—Now the GOP Should “Go for It!”

Last week was a turning-point—the week when Republicans take the offensive in the race for the White House and control of Congress. They needed someone to step up, show some guts and close the trap set on the Democrats by the President. They came through. I am not sure whether it was intentional or if the trap just appeared because of circumstances, but it was there. Conventional wisdom still says that this will be a Democrat year, that the American people think the country is on the wrong track and want change. So how with everything going against him, did the President lure the Democrats into the trap?

In the beginning of the summer it looked as though the President would have a mutiny on his hands. Several Republican senators and representatives were quoted in the media as leaning toward a recall of troops from Iraq. Senate Majority leader Harry ... Read More...

Sweeping up after Illinois Republicans

It’s hard to believe that only seven years ago the state of Illinois had a Governor, one U.S Senator, a majority congressional delegation, Treasurer and the State Senate all Republican. Now the Republican Party of Illinois can’t field a creditable candidate to run for the United States Senate in a Presidential year!

Is it that the national Republican message of the last 27 years of a smaller government, lower taxes and more personal responsibility is getting old? Maybe it’s the stand on life that the people don’t like, or the stand in favor of the second amendment? No, I don’t think so, as a matter of fact if the Republican Party in Illinois were known for those issues, it would be flourishing. It’s the fact the party doesn’t stand for anything that they’ve lost voters, specifically the Reagan Democrats and the conservatives that came with the Reagan revolution.

Voters in ... Read More...
