Fr. Greeley's Claim, and the Archdiocese Response

In a Sun Time’s Column, Fr Andrew Greeley states:

If we are to believe the media, the Catholic bishops warned American Catholics that if they voted for a candidate who supported abortion, their eternal salvation might be in jeopardy. I don’t think that’s what they really said, but, alas, the bishops generally have a hard time making clear what they actually are saying. The media don’t do nuance very well, and bishops have a hard time conveying their intent in words that fit into a 750-word story or a 90-second TV clip. Hence, they add confusion upon confusion, and many Catholics simply dismiss them with a snide comment about the sexual abuse of children.

Guv sued over allotting money to health care without OK

Two of the state’s leading business figures Tuesday sued the Blagojevich administration, alleging that it’s breaking the law by allotting funds for health care initiatives without getting needed legislative approval.

In an action filed in Sangamon County Circuit Court in Springfield, Illinois Manufacturers Assn. President Greg Baise and former Helene Curtis Industries CEO Ron Gidwitz contend that a controversial fund shift violated both the Illinois Constitution and a law that defines administrative powers.

Durbin proposal would let judges change mortgages

Bankruptcy judges would be allowed to come to the aid of homeowners facing mortgage foreclosure under a proposal pushed by Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin.

The Senate’s second-highest ranking Democrat planned to put his bill in the spotlight Wednesday at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that will include testimony from Nettie McGee, a 73-year-old Chicago woman threatened by foreclosure.
