I wrote a short item a few days ago when the polar bear was placed on the list of threatened species. Today I will expand on my claim that the bear is not threatened, but capitalism is.
The government of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, where a large percentage of the world's polar bears live, will not list the animal as threatened. They live with the bears, but what do they know? I realize that some will criticize Nunavut when they read that the territory feels their hunting industry will be threatened, but keep in mind that Ducks Unlimited, which works to ensure healthy duck populations, is run by hunters. They don't gain by wiping out a species.

Not everyone agrees that the ice the bears live on is threatened to the extent that has been alleged. Keep in mind that the bear itself has not shown signs of decreasing in population. Quite the opposite, it is increasing. But the people who managed to get it listed as threatened are making the unsubstantiated prediction that within 50 years there will not be enough ice to support them.
How is it that suddenly conditions on the planet threaten the polar bear? Has the globe been colder in the past? Has it been warmer in the past? Yes, to both. Has the polar bear been suddenly placed by God on the earth in present day conditions as a species unable to adapt, or is it able to weather the changes over the millennium?
As gas prices rise and we fight over whether we should, as one solution, drill in Alaska, the anti-capitalists will use any tactic they can to stop progress; including lying to you about the polar bear.

Don't forget that Ducks Unlimited, maybe run by hunters, is also funded by taxpayers to the tune of over $116 million over the past 6 years. Is there no escape?
