Past crimes and present friendships

‘The notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values doesn’t make much sense.’

Actually, what doesn’t make much sense is how an intelligent man such as Barack Obama might not see how a relationship with Bill Ayers does in fact reflect on him and his values. Especially when Ayers’ response to his “detestable acts” is simply, “I feel we didn’t do enough.”

Oh, really?

Of course, one can’t blame Obama for being so surprised or offended by a question he probably wasn’t expecting. For too long, the media have been complicit in polishing the images of Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Kathy Boudin and the rest of their radical, violent ilk.

Pat H. says:

I reside in Hyde Park.

My recollection of this fund- raiser at the Ayers/Dohrn residence is as follows.

Barack Obama decided to run for the Illinois State Senate and the very first fund-raiser he had after announcing for this office was held at the Ayers/Dohrn residence.

It is my opinion that when you are an unknown individual running for your first political office that the first fund-raising event would be sponsered by someone you know well not just someone "who resides in my neighborhood.

Years later it might be politically correct to distance oneself from the Ayers/Dohrn connection but not intellectually honest.

Pat Hickey says:

There is hope for the future of Chicago journalism - especially at the Chicago Tribune!

This is the best feature presented on Senator and his dubious at best and self-serving at worst relationship with two of the most odious people in Chicago - Billy Ayers and Berardine Dorhn.

These privileged terrorists are enjoying the privilege of full disclosure - thirty plus years too late.

Well done, Brenda!
